Online retail Amazon vs. Ebay. Selling on Amazon or sale on Ebay? What is the best option for online sellers (Part 1)
Amazon increased more than 30% each year, the 3rd party sales and recent news of layoffs at eBay, the question of the sale on eBay or sale on Amazon is more important to online sellers than ever. The economic downturn and financial crisis has also made suppliers e-commerce closer look well in the list of fees, commissions, tools, etc., to make a more informed decision on the 3rd Party platform of their choice. This article will try to give some information to online stores on the pros and cons of selling on Amazon.com and ebay.com.
Let the analisys with the current state of two platforms in terms of sales of goods 3rd party. This could be an indicator (albeit not the only) the success of the platform. The first impression is that eBay is overwhelming leader in solutions market for electronic commerce companies 3rd party. In an analysis conducted by Piper Jaffray, Gene Munster, an estimated Over the last 12 months eBay has sold goods by a 3rd party market value of approximately $ 62 billion, while Amazon sells only $ 6 billion. Although the difference may seem overwhelming in favor of closer eBay can prove otherwise. eBay Sales rose less than the industry average, higher fees have outraged groups sellers important energy and following this, the stock has underperformed the S & P 500 and Nasdaq last year. Other Secondly, the third part of the Amazon sales have continued to grow at the same rate as total revenues (30-35% per year). Amazon has exceeded industry growth by a huge margin. Another important reason for the difference in the amount of U.S. $ products sold is just one of the geographic scope. If eBay is present in 32 countries, Amazon is present in only 7 so that comparisons volume should be adjusted accordingly. With a clearer picture of the numbers today, the trend is very clear: while sales stagnate eBay and sellers are opting for Amazon Marketplace as a platform.
The immediate question was Why of why more and more vendors to choose from Amazon instead of eBay to sell if the fees are more expensive? Some of the reasons that I found are as follows.
· Expenses of structure and presentation of prizes: While, on average, Amazon charges are higher, on average still hide important information. Amazon's pricing structure is easier to understand. There is a single monthly payment for almost unliimited ads and a commission based on a fixed (not variable as in eBay). This makes the marketAmazon more attractive to high volume sellers of goods or high turnover, which means no differentiation products with even more as a "commodity" type. On the other hand, eBay auction format and fee structure is much more attractive prices for high / low turnover items. No wonder that eBay began as a platform almost exclusively for "Antiques and Collectors" and moved gradually to integrate suppliers.
· Customers Better Amazon customers were more loyal, spend more, and especially pay on average higher prices for the same products on eBay. They are very attractive reason for a seller to choose the online platform of Amazon; we will check them one by one.
More faithful customers o: Even if Amazon sells goods from a third party vendor, it retains the customer information and the right to respond to the client of any marketing campaign Amazon considers appropriate. This means that all direct costs shares marketing are centralized and controlled by Amazon, which is a huge benefit for customers more loyal. On the other hand eBay not control this information. If a seller sells something on eBay, the seller retains the billing and contact information, and not on eBay. Therefore, tracking marketing efforts are divided between several suppliers, without coordination or coherence in the eyes of the buyer.
Customers who spend most o: What Amazon does with the information and buyer is pure "state of the art 'marketing directly increase revenues and profitability per customer. By sending e-mails, cross-selling items at the cash register, want lists, giving away shipping, customization tools, etc., Amazon has made loyal customers, and in this case, loyal customers spend more than any other site.
O Higher prices means: There are several reasons why I can say the prices on Amazon are higher than for sale on eBay. First and most important is the market structure: Amazon is a market of fixed price, while eBay is a market based auction. By its nature, an auction based market will be much more competitive on price. For similar items, a difference of $ 1 could make a buyer decides to go the cheapest option. Also, it is much easier to compare prices between different suppliers, because the site was originally designed to do.
The other reason, easier to understand, it's just that the costs are higher on Amazon, so on average, as vendors tend to keep their prices, the prices of similar items will be higher on Amazon than on eBay. In any case, is important for an online vendor to know that Amazon customers will be less picky about the prices that customers of eBay.
